The Dodgers were the only team to win more than 1 World Series this decade; capped in 1988 by the dramatic pinch hit bottom of the 9th come from behind homerun by hobbled Kirk Gibson off the typically reliable Dennis Eckersley in Game 1. The Royals beat their same state rivals to win their first World Series in 1985. Phillies do the same winning their first title in 1980. Kirk Gibson played another big role in a World Series victory, this time for the 1984 Tigers that won it leading from wire to wire that season.
